It has been a
very busy, yet confusing day. I need to get an air ticket
to Istanbul, Turkey. Yet, all the travel agencies I
went to are very expensive! Someone told me that a cheaper
way would be cross the border from Eilat back to Egypt, and
get a ticket from Cairo.
The bus from Jerusalem
to Eilat takes about 4 hours. The ride is very pleasuent,
nice scenary along the way. We stopped by the Dead Sea
for about 30 minutes. It is very interesting to watch
people flow on the water. By 6:30pm, I was at the border.
Cross the border was so easy, paid the NIS61 exit tax on the
Israel side, got throught the boder checking in no time, walked
about 20 feet, I was in Egypt!
Then, at the Egyptian
custom, they told me that I can't get back to Cairo with the
visa I have on my passport. I have to get back to the
Egyptian embassy in Eilat for a visa!
And here I am,
after all the hassles, back to Eilat again! Hopefully
I have some luck to get the visa tomorrow. It is the
end of Ramadam, the embassy might be closed!
Most of the hotels/hostels
are booked. With the help of a lady, I was able to get
a bed in the Max & Merran's hostel. This hostel
is actually a two houses complex, nothing fancy, but has clean
rooms and hot water. Also cable TV is available.
It is kind of funny to watch CNN, MTV and History Channel
in the place, where according to the rest of the world, it
is war zone.
