Ever since the 1997 incident, all tourist vehicles need to follow police convoy to go into Luxor.  But I am not sure how useful these polices are.  About 15 minutes after we are back on the road from Edfu, the polices truck in front of us speeds up and eventually out of our sight.

One hour fifteen minutes later, the mini bus dropped us off in front of the Happy Land hotel.  Seems to me that all minibuses from Edfu stop here.  I am sure the bus drivers must have some kind of commission if anyone  check in to this hotel.  We decided to go to the Grand Hotel instead.  There is nothing fancy about this place, a very simple bed, with ceiling fans.  A double room costs LE15.

To my surprise, Luxor is much smaller than I thought.  It is very easy to find your way around town.  It is about 4:30pm by the time Ben and I got to the Luxor temple, which is right next to the Nile and about 20 minutes walk from the hotel.

The sun starts its decent for the day.  Its rich orange light beam radiates on the columns and walls of the Luxor Temple, that adds a layer of mystery to this ancient building.  There isn't much tourists at the moment, I enjoy this quietness and have the entire site to myself.

What was the life like back in the time when they worship their gods in this temple?  My eyes are closed, allowing my mind, and the surrounding to lead me to another world!

Night has fallen.  Stars and full moon light up the Nile.  Riding in a horse carriage along the Nile is definitly a highlight of the day.

Ben , Pedo, Walter and I spend the next hour attending the Sound and Light Show of the Karnak Temple.  It is absolutly amazing!  I will come back tomorrow to see the temple during day light.

Ever since I left the States, I have been eating bread and street foods.  For the first time, I have a real meal in a decent restaurant.  Not sure what I ordered, I just point to the food on the table next to ours, and not long our waiter bring up a whole bunch of dishes, chicken, lamb, soup, salar, etc.  And to my surprise, the bill only come up to LE11 for each one of us.  Indeed, my one US dollar can stretch for a long way.

Today's Tips:
* If you bargain hard, a horse carriage ride from Luxor Temple to Karnak Temple would cost between LE2 to LE5.
* It is much nicer to see the Luxor Temple at sunset, and don't miss the Light and Sound Show in Karnak Temple.
* Hotels/hostels in Luxor seems willing to bargain.  The owner of Grand Hotel gave us breakfast for the already cheap double LE15 room.
