About Me

Hello my friend, welcome to my travel website.

First of all, a little information about myself.  My name is Allen Wu.  I graduated from University of Maryland, College Park (Go Terp!) with a Mechanical Engineering degree.  Currently I am working as a System Engineer in Bethesda, MD. At the same time, I serve the US Navy as an Engineering Duty Officer.

I don't know how I got into backpacking, but after all the trips that I took through these years, traveling has became part of my life.  My first major trip was in 1996, I spent three months journeyed along the Silk Road in China; then between 1997 and 1998, I spent most of my time wandering around in England, Scotland, and part of Europe; between 1999 and 2000, because of my work, I was able to travel all around the US.  And perhaps you have known by now, my most recent trip was in the Middle East.

So often my friends and brothers ask me why I travel alone?  It is to experience life, I told them.  By traveling, I am not only experiencing the different cultures, seeing different wonders of this beautiful world, but also seeing myself who I truly am.

While on the road, there are numerous times I got lost, felt frustrated, got tricked, and being lonely, yet, they also bring along the astonishing moments that I have had, the marvelous that I have witness, and the wonderful true I have came across.

My father used to phase me with this Chinese proverb, "One travels a thousand miles, gains more knowledge than reads a thousand volumes of books".  Indeed, I have come to realized the world is full with treasures, as long as we are willing to step out from our little comfort zone, life has so much to offer.
