I didn't realized
it is Christmas Eve! What are my brothers and friends
doing back home at this time? Must be busy preparing
for tomorrow.
I met three UN
soliders in the hostel. They are from Fiji, and stationed
at the border of Israel and Lebannan for some peace mission.
So bad that I couldn't remember their names. After dinner,
which is nothing fancy but some kabbar from the street, I
ride along with them in their 4x4 to explore Jerusalem at
night.
Christmas music
is coming out from the CD player, we are driving around the
city of old Jerusalem. My heart is pounding when the
Rock of Doom is in my sight, I can't imagine I am actually
here in the Holy land. So many friends and relatives
back home tried to convence me not to come here due to the
conflict. I am so happy to tell them that they are wrong!
The city walls
are light up to celebrate the special holiday. It is
definitly a great experience to enjoy the city of Jeruselam
from the Oliver mountain at night. Even thought freezing
rain is falling hard onto this holy place, yet Christmas atmosphere
is everywhere. Tons and tons of people are heading to
Bethleham for the ceremony there with the Pope. A twenty
minutes ride can easily turn into hours of waiting in the
traffic.
By the time we
got back to the hostel, I was out of energy. And to
my surprise, the living room has turned into a pond due to
the heavy leaking in the celling. The owner is trying
hard to light up the furnace, and Mike, the receptionist,
is complaining how bad the weather is while mopping the floor.
Luckily, the doom room doesn't leak, even thought there is
no heat, at least I can have a dry night sleep!
